Mont des Cats a Trappist beer that has its origins in 1848. Mont des Cats Abbey was an abbey of Trappist monks who produced beer for their own consumption, the style of this beer was strong and very dark hue appreciated by visitors.
With the start of their marketing, Abbey brewery modernises and begins to develop a lager, but because of the decree of expulsion of foreign monks, the abbey had to cease production. In 1918, the monastery and the brewery were destroyed by bombing. It was not until 2011 that the abbey itself resubmitted the Mont des Cats Trappist beer.
A beer brewed in collaboration with the Abbey of Scourmont, both abbeys have created a recipe designed by true masters Chimay brewers who have helped the Abbey resume its brewing tradition.
Mont des Cats is an authentic Trappist beer of high fermentation, a bit murky because of its yeast that has a subtle scent of citrus and caramel malts palate is dry and bitter finish.
