Description
Located in Valdefinjas, in Castilla y León, to the northwest of Madrid, the winery is a Spanish diamond.
With deep roots in Spanish history and terroir, we are the cradle of wines powerful and intense and the very incarnation of the prestigious Toro Denomination of Origin.
The vines grow in sandy and rocky soil; they are a living symbol of resistance, which caused the development of their roots to depths of more than 5 meters, seeking the much appreciated water.
These strains embody tenacity, they are able to withstand the harshest winters and the suffocating heat of the hottest summers. A climate referred to as 'nine months of winter and three of hell.'
The vineyard is a mosaic of over a hundred small vineyard plots. They are very old vines, some over 200 years old. This guarantees complexity and great richness.
At Bodega Numanthia we seek to preserve this unique heritage. All work in the vineyards is done manually to maintain the balance of the vines and the quality of the grapes. The vines are grown without irrigation and organically without pesticides.
The production and selection of the best grapes from the Toro 'terroir' is the basis of our different wines. Its grape, Tinta de Toro, is recognized as 'the reddest of red grapes'.
Indigenous and unique, it offers great concentration, balanced tannins and abundant elegant notes.
A member of the Tempranillo family, it was successfully adapted to the Toro 'terroir' producing very low yields. This small and highly concentrated grape offers great potential and unique complexity.
Bodega Numanthia, like an uncut diamond in the rough, needs expert hands to cultivate it, to obtain the most complex, powerful and elegant.
Bodega Numanthia cares for a historical heritage made up of 200 hectares of vineyards in the towns of Toro, Morales de Toro, Valdefinjas, Venialbo, El Pego and Argujillo.
It manages a mosaic of 200 plots scattered throughout the D.O. Toro, located on both sides of the Duero River.
The diversity of these vineyards ensures a wide range of terroir expressions. Bodega Numanthia is the only winery in the region that so fully represents the diversity of the D.O. Toro with its 8 types of terroirs.
Each terroir has its own characteristics and provides a distinctive expression of Tinta de Toro.
Each plot is vinified separately before being carefully blended by winemakers. The result is a wine with a unique balance between power and elegance.
Heritage protectors, they are dedicated to making wines that genuinely reflect the bounty of these centuries-old vineyards.
When you enjoy A wine from this house wants you to savor the complexity of our diversity of terroirs that allow us to create wines with unusual texture, vitality and beauty.
