Its founder, Sir Alexander Ramsay, was one of the Scottish landowners who campaigned to authorize the distillation of Scotch whisky.
In 1824, he was one of the first to apply for a license and the Fettercairn Distillery was opened.
But despite Ramsay's campaign for regulation, he was a man of cunning business and recruited illegal whiskey manufacturers to be his first servants.
He recognized that only they had the knowledge and skills he needed.
So, since their very beginning, they have been doing things a little differently in the pursuit of great whiskey.
