Description

In the early 1960s, Giuseppe Rivetti, nicknamed 'Pin', and his wife, Lidia, were skilled and dedicated farmers with an enormous appreciation and knowledge of tradition, while also maintaining a curious interest in the future.

With the success of their Moscato business, they decided to diversify and focus on red grapes.

His first foray was in 1985 with Barbera Ca di Pian. In 1989 Pin was created. Through observation and collaboration with other producers, this wine was made with new oenological ideas and with the implementation of the latest vineyard and winery techniques. The plan was to make a wine with international appeal but also deeply linked to the Piedmont territory.

The experience gained through the production of Pin proved to be a valuable tool when we approached Barbaresco. Our first Barbaresco, Gallina, was created in 1995, followed by Starderi in 1996 and finally Valeirano in 1997. All three Barbarescos are made exactly the same in the cellar. The wines highlight the unique differences of each individual vineyard. In 1997, Gallina Cru began to produce the prestigious Barbera d'Alba, which still stands out for the unique characteristics that this incredible vineyard and land gives it. 1998 was the year of the Barbera d'Asti Superiore Bionzo. A wine of immense structure and longevity, made from centuries-old vines.

Driven by ambition and encouraged by what they have created, they made the decision to acquire a few hectares of vineyards in Grinzane Cavour. Giorgio Rivetti foresaw the great potential of the vineyard. Grinzane Cavour produced wines that brought together the most prestigious and distinctive characteristics of Barolo, all combined in one. In 2001 they turned their focus to Tuscany and we created a new winery, Casanova della Spinetta. They wanted the challenge of working in a different territory with different grape varieties. Although the trend was to work primarily with international grape varieties, they once again stayed true to their respect for indigenous grape varieties, which in this case was the Sangiovese.

With a deep passion for champagne and the desire to stand out again, in 2011 they acquired the Contratto winery, a renowned and historic Piedmontese sparkling wine house. At Contratto they kept the traditional history of this winery with their classic and enigmatic method. New vineyards were immediately acquired and thus Contratto undoubtedly became an important benchmark within the Alta Langa appellation. His latest adventure began in 2018 with the acquisition of some hectares within the hills of Tortona, Piedmont, which are intended for the production of Timorasso. They wholeheartedly believe in the enormous potential of this unique white grape. They are sure that this incredible native Piedmontese grape can be compared to the best white wines in the world.
