Description
The best wines defy color and style in search of provenance. And when those origins are Les Manyes, one need not wonder why.
Perched atop a monastery in the village of Scala Dei, 800 meters from the high slopes of the Montsant mountains, the Les Manyes Grand Cru vineyard, facing west, is a universe unto itself. The Garnacha Peluda (literally: Grenache peluda) vines that grow there are a rare variant of the region's most popular Garnacha Tinta.
They are equipped with a fine soft down on the underside of their leaves that it retains moisture in the scorching heat, allowing them to thrive even in this hot and challenging climate. Lower sugar levels also mean lower alcohol levels, lending an unmistakable sparkle and elegance to enhance depth and focus.
Distinctive chalk-rich clay soils mark the Grenache fruit with a minerality, structure and elegance that could only be a place, once, a wine. The grapes are harvested by hand, fermented in whole bunches and then aged for 16 months in cement.
The jewel in the flagship range of Terroir Al Limit, Les Manyes is one of the elusive wines of 100 Parker points (2016). Each iconic pour weaves a rich and complex web of smoke and stone, fragrant black cherry shimmer, and savory mountain herbs; a delicate bitterness settles like a cool morning mist over the whole, lending structure, shape and graceful expression, both now and in a long and beautiful future to come.
