It was 1987 when Thomas E. Bulleit Jr. finally achieved his dream of reviving an old family bourbon recipe. With it, the Bulleit Distilling Company was born in homage to his great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit, who had produced high-rye whiskey between the years 1830-1860 before disappearing without a trace en route from Kentucky to New Orleans. Leaving his successful law firm and risking everything, Thomas reclaimed this whiskey that had nearly disappeared with his grandfather and took the world by storm.
