Description

Shortly after his father died, Johnnie Walker, a Scottish farmer, decided to sell the family farm and set up a grocery store with the money. At that time, these types of stores specialized in selling single malt whiskeys, but the drinks were not consistent enough, so Johnnie, who had a great business mind, began mixing them until he got the perfect combination. After the death of the founder, his son Alexander took over and expanded the brand. In 1867 he created Old Highland Whiskey, the brand's first commercial formula, and turned the captains of the ships that arrived in Kilmarnock into ambassadors of his whiskey, who distributed them throughout the world. He adapted the shape of the bottle, making it square to protect it from long boat trips, reducing the number of breakages. The square bottle and its 20-degree inclined label became its trademark, which lasts to this day. In 1909, Old Highland Whiskey gave way to the current Johnnie Walker Red Label and Johnnie Walker Black Label and the characteristic walker was added to its bottles. Just eleven years later, in 1920, Johnny Walker was already present in more than 120 countries, increasing its iconic image and making it the best-selling Whiskey in the world. In 1934 to the company Johnnie Walker & sons was granted by King George V the honor of supplying the British Royal House. An honor he still maintains.
